Ganpati festival is here and the energy in the air is infectious. We are all doing preparations for our favourite Bappa’s welcome. The must have prasad is Bappa’s favourite Modak.

Traditionally ukdiche modak, fried coconut and jaggery modak, and Mawa modak are popular. This is a sugar free recipe which is made with Makhana, Dry fruit and some Mawa. The recipe is not only yummy and healthy but extremely easy to make.

Hope you enjoy these.

Ingredients :

1 cup - Makhana

1 cup - Mix Dry fruits : Almonds, Cashew Pistachios

1/4 cup - Organic jaggery powder

2 tspn – Ghee / clarified butter

125 gm - Mawa / Khoya / Evaporated milk solids

Elaichi powder as per taste

Preparation :

First Grate the Mawa / Khoya. Then on low heat roast the grated Mawa for 5_6 min. Once it softens and gets roasted (Don’t let it turn brown) cool it in a bowl.

In a separate pan, on a low flame, dry roast the Cashews, Almonds and Pistachios, Makhanas separately for 2-3 min each.

Once all ingredients have cooled, take a blender. Add dry fruits and makhana and blend them to slightly coarse powder on a low speed. Now add the cooled Mawa in the blender, and simultaneously add the ghee, elaichi powder and jaggery powder. Pulse this mixture for very small intervals. You will observe the mixture coming together in a blender.

Don't over-blend it. Remove the mixture in a bowl. Mould into modak shapes and serve. You can also make laddoo with the same mixture.

If you want to serve it later, store it in an air-tight container in the refrigerator.

You can also substitute jaggery with seedless dates. That mixture will be slightly moist, in that case, you can reduce the quantity of ghee.

Ganpati Bappa Moraya !
